  • FOP COVID-19 Update
    Posted On: May 04, 2020

First, I would like to say thank you for a job well done. As first responders, we are tasked with protecting the public along with protecting ourselves during this difficult time in our history.

While our nation has been under quarantine I have been actively participating in webinars with the National FOP and Zoom conferences with the State FOP. The FOP is working for you.

At the state level N95 masks and face shields are available for our officers. I am currently attempting to acquire 2000 masks and 500 face shields for the members of our lodge. This pandemic is not leaving us anytime soon and we need to remain prepared. Once we receive these protective items at our lodge you will be informed via our website. Please be sure to let others know to register their emails if they have not done so yet.

Missouri State FOP assisted in making changes to insure that COVID 19 is classified as a work-related injury. This allows workers’ compensation to cover any infected officers. The State FOP is starting up its own YouTube channel to help pass along information; more details will be available once it is launched. At the National level death by COVID 19 is now a duty related injury.

Our State conference, which was to take place June 4-6, 2020 has been postponed. The new date is set for August 20-22, 2020 in Branson. Final details should be available at our next membership meeting.

At the national level, FOP has teamed up with Aetna Health Insurance for our retired members 65 and over. Aetna has a supplement plan for seniors 65 and over that are members of the FOP. Right now, we have 5000 plus senior members that use Aetna as their supplement insurance. If we can get the number up to 25,000, Aetna has committed to starting a plan for members under 65 along with their spouses and family. The National FOP has well over 700,000 members. If you know someone who was an active member and then retired and dropped their membership, have them contact our office. The National FOP wants to find a way to have these members readmitted into the membership to take advantage of this supplement.

For updates for law enforcement, go to www.fopcovid19.org. This site gives updates with the newest information specific to law enforcement. In closing I want to again say thank you for a job well done. If anyone needs anything, please contact the office. We will do our best to help.

         Stay safe and stay healthy,

          Donald Van

President Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 15
